Jewell Loyd is having a fantastic year — and she’s not done yet. The hoops superstar won a gold medal as a key member of Team USA’s women’s basketball team at the Tokyo Olympics, and she helped her WNBA team, the Seattle Storm, claim theCommissioner's Cup just a few days later. And she even had a chance to stop by the White House to celebrate last year’s WNBA title (wherethe team was serenaded with an orchestral rendition of “We are the Champions”).
Now the Storm are heading into the playoffs looking to score their second straight WNBA title (and third in the last four seasons). All the while, Jewell continues to use her platform — and her success — to advocate for causes that are important to her, includingending the hunger crisis. Nunbelievable is honored to share this goal with her and wepledged to donate 10 meals toFeeding America for every bucket she scored during the Olympics. She came through with 12 field goals during Team USA’s six games in Tokyo.
In the process, Jewell helped Team USA extend its historic dynasty,winning the gold medal for the seventh straight time! “I mean, this is like the highest thing you can get as an athlete,” she said after the gold medal game on August 8. “You put your body and mind through everything it can to be at a pinnacle like this, and, you know, it definitely gives confidence. It gives you appreciation for the grind. And I’m just really happy to be part of this.”
Nunbelievable is so proud of everything Jewell has accomplished on the court and her mission to help those less fortunate. “Knowing that there are kids and families that are hungry, that doesn’t sit well with me at all, and I don’t believe that should be an issue here in America,”Jewell told us last year. “And so knowing that we can provide help is a no-brainer to me. I’m going to do everything in my power to provide that, because there’s a need. No one should be left hungry. … Plus the cookies are great, so it’s a win-win for me!”
