Jewell Loyd Goes for Gold to Help Nunbelievable Feed the Hungry

Jewell Loyd Goes for Gold to Help Nunbelievable Feed the Hungry

Basketball superstar Jewell Loyd is ready to take on the world in Tokyo — and she's got more than gold on her mind. In addition to helping the United States continue its phenomenal Olympic winning streak in women's basketball, she's going to assist Nunbelievable in our fight against hunger.

“Each time I score a basket, Nunbelievable will donate 10 meals to Feeding America,” says Loyd, a two-time WNBA champion with the Seattle Storm who is makingher Olympic debut this summer. “So if Team USA makes it all the way to the final and I do well, there is potential to have thousands of meals donated as a result of my efforts on the court.”

This is not the first time Loyd (nicknamed the “Gold Mamba” by her mentor, the late Kobe Bryant) has supported Nunbelievable’s efforts.Last fall she helped promoteour mission — for every cookie we sell we make a donation to one of our impact partners. “Knowing that there are kids and families that are hungry, that doesn't sit well with me at all, and I don't believe that should be an issue here in America,” she told us at the time. “And so knowing that we can provide help is a no-brainer to me. I’m going to do everything in my power to provide that, because there's a need. No one should be left hungry. … Plus the cookies are great, so it’s a win-win for me!”

Feeding America is the largest hunger-relief organization in the United States, with a network of 200 food banks and 60,000 meal programs, food pantries, and other agencies that distribute nutritious food and provide relief in every community and every Congressional district in the United States. As one of our impact partners, Nunbelievable proudly supports the work they do.

We'll be cheering Loyd on at the Games as she joinsone of the most dominant teams in Olympic history. The United States women’s basketball squad has won six straight Olympic gold medals, dating back to 1996. They haven’t losta single game in Olympic play since 1992 — a year before Loyd was even born! The team begins play in Tokyo on Tuesday, July 27 with the first of three preliminary-round games. Here's the team's schedule:
